Is Angela Good, or Bad? You Decide!

Okay, so something cool just happened. FOR REALS.

Awhile ago I was blog surfing, reading an author interview and found the coolest contest EVA--author Marilee Brothers was giving away a character's name in the fourth book of her Unbidden Magic series on the Got YA blog.

And so naturally I entered.

And I sorta fudged a bit. One thing I was supposed to write on the post is whether I wanted to be a good character or a baddie, but it was so hard to choose! I mean, talk about Sophie's Choice here! So, I just posted that I wanted to be entered and figured I'd probably never stand a chance of winning but if I did, I'd worry about that later.

Well kids, it's later.

And I WON!!

And...the most wonderful Marilee is expecting an answer: Good Character, or Bad character? Which will be given my name?

So, dear, wonderful Musers, I am leaving my FATE in your HANDS. Is Angela a good girl, or a bad one? Vote in the comments below. Most votes by the time I reach 200,000 WINS!

Considering you can't even allow a spider to die in a hot tub, I'd say Good.

And congrats on the win! Winning is fun.

You are so good, but a bad character named Angela would be awesome! Wait a sec--did I just spoil the ballot. Okay okay--here it is--

GOOD

Bad character! :)

Angela to me sounds more like a good character to me, at least all of the Angelas, Angies and Anges I've met in my life.

Bad could be fun, but I think it's way overrated. My vote is good :)

P.s. Congrats!

Oooh, pick baddie!! How fun and totally awesome!! Congrats!

The name Angela is so good it just HAS to be evil.
Mwahaha

How cool! "Angela" makes me think of "angel" so I'd go with the opposite expectation. Bad. Definitely bad.

Bad. Definitely bad. I've seen that wicked side of you, and it's so cool. ;)

You need to be made into a sneaky good, the kind no one's sure of until the crunch.

Jean Davis said...

Bad. Good would be sweet but bad would be more fun.

Evil! Evil! Impolite and evil!

Congrats on winning! My first thought was good but then I thought, when do you have a chance to be bad and not have consequences in real life? Hmmm, I'm going with bad.

I see you as a well-intentioned super hero who's a bit bumbling but things always come out well in the end!

Yay for winning! I vote: bad! It's always fun to be bad. :) And you are definitely a good egg, so. A fun contradiction.

The character could be a good girl gone bad or a bad girl turned good or an good/evil twin combo!

I love the idea of angela being a bad character - but built with enough goodness to play with the readers minds ;)

How fun! Congratulations! I think you should be bad...very bad. (wicked laugh)

That is so cool!
As funny as it would be to have you be a bad character, it would bother me to read it. Gotta pick "good character." Unless there are other options, like "misunderstood" or "morally ambiguous" or something.

Good character

Hi Angela -

I vote for the good character. :)

Book Angela could be your alter ego and do things you would never do! Tough choice, but be a baddie in the book! What a cool contest!

I have to say that a name like Angela begs for the contradiction. Bad.
Although we all secretly wish to be the superhero, maybe you'll get to be Angela, the Demon Slayer. Has a nice ring to it.

Gotta go for EVIL. I mean where's the fun in good? Plus "Angela" sounds like an angel, so you need that irony.

E. Arroyo said...

Congrats on winning! I'd say good.

Don said...

Those of us who know you high school know there is no redemption. Definitely bad.

MaryWitzl said...

Congratulations on winning!

Why does it have to be one or the other? Why can't we have mainly good with bad habits or mostly bad with flickers of goodness?

But if I had to choose either, I'd go for good. Realistically, believably good. Bad is soooo overdone these days and we get enough of it in life.

Terri said...

Oh, I agree. Playing against type! Angela has to be BAD.

But thank you so much for the tip about font size on my blog. Not sure I can figure out what to do about it. Maybe a different color.

I like the idea of an Angela who's a baddie. Plus, if you're a real-life good character as the comments suggest, this may be the only time you get to experience you alter ego. *g*

That is so so so cool!! I love it! I think I'd probably want it to be a bad character, so that maybe you could become like Lord Voldemort. Ha! Lord Angela. Ooo, catchy.

Angela EEEEEVIL Ackerman..mwahahaha

And I mean come on, you're the Zombie lady. You gotta be evil. It's a given.

Andrea said...

Angela, since you're so good in everyday life, why not go for the bad character, just to be different?

Lale said...

Bad! Way more interesting. :)

Lindsay (a.k.a Isabella) said...

Congrats on the win.
I'd vote bad. Angela is such an innocent name it'd be fun to be bad. :)

Bethany Elizabeth said...

Congrats on winning!! I'd say go with a bad character, because the name Angela has a nice contrast with a dark personality. :) Besides, it's more fun.

beth said...

Go evil!!! You'd have way more fun :)

KarenG said...

Definitely bad! I'm with the previous commenter, that you need the irony angel= bad NOT good! Congratulations on your win!

Emily Casey said...

Bad. It'll be more fun.

April said...

Congrats on winning, and I say BAD! Much more fun that way!

As long as the good character isn't actually an angel or doesn't just beg to be described as "wears a halo," I think Angela can work as a good character. On the other hand, being vicariously bad could be fun. And good bad characters have good qualities, and good characters can appear to be bad, so either way you may be on somewhat of a continuum. Still with me? Assuming good doesn't mean totally obvious goody-two-shoes (or if she is, maybe she can be funny?), I'll go with good.

Christina Lee said...

When else can you ever be considered evil (guilt free) than in fiction. Go for it, BAG girl!!

Angela Ackerman said...

Haha, you guys crack me up! (Especially you, Don & L.J.)

Thanks for all the votes and the reasons for or against good or bad. The results are up in the next post!

Have a great week!

Angela

First: Congrats! So cool!

Second: Umm I don't know. Snarky bad would probably be fun.

I think it's the other traits that make the good or bad into awesome characters. Just look at Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer from Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog. Dr. Horrible is the "villain" but he's cool. Captain Hammer is the "hero" but he's a jerk.
