Bookshelf Muse Followers Contest!

Would you look at all those avatars in the sidebar? 102 Followers, and all of you absolutely awesome! Thank you so much for keeping us in your radar. To celebrate, Becca and I are having a special Followers Only contest!

It's simple-simple, too! We figure that since we managed to hook you on The Bookshelf Muse, it's only fair to repay the favor and offer prizes for hooking us!

Here's what you do:

If you are a current follower or a member of our Facebook group, give us a 1-2 sentence blurb for for your plot(completed novel or work-in-progress) in the comment section. Any genre is welcome except Erotica, and please give us your title as well. The contest will close end of day Saturday (I'll post in the comments) and winners will be announced Monday.

The prizes:

A double critique (one from Becca, one from me) is up for grabs to the top 3 book blurbs that hook us the most. We will critique your first chapter or 3000 words, whatever comes first.

If you aren't a follower yet, no worries. We love contests and will be holding more in the future, so it's never to late to become an Esteemed Stalker of The Bookshelf Muse!

Please feel free to pass on the word to others. We can't wait to read your hooks!

Is it ok if followers who don't post much submit?

Angela said...

Absolutely! And if anyone feels more comfortable having their pitch posted anonymously, just send it to my email in my profile.

I probably should have offered that right up front, but I've got a cold and my brain's a little slushy...

What a wonderful idea and great prize you're offering your Followers. Please can you confirm if it's a hook from your book or a hook to describe your book? Wasn't sure. I'd like to give the opening hook from my first chapter, but didn't know if that's what you're asking for.

Angela said...

Sonia, sorry--yes I mean a 2 sentence blurb about your book, not the opening lines. I have retooled the wording to make this clearer.

Very cool. I'm a new follower, and if I was going to pitch my current WIP, I'd blurb it as an action/comedy about demon-fighting rollergirls.

Blurb. Am I the only person who thinks "blurb" is the funniest word ever?

Natalie Hatch said...

Angela and Bec I think I'm the first one to pitch... lol.
The Same Skin (YA fantasy) - Your first first kiss should be memorable, passionate, breathtaking and should never, ever end with whiskers growing out of your face. Puberty is hard enough to deal with, Jane Evans didn’t bargain on turning into a seal as well, being Selkie could cost her more than she bargained for.

I'd just like to say, great blog! :D How did you get so many followers?

Yippee: I'm a follower now! I've finally figured out how to do this!

Here's a few more sent in by email:

"Nothing like death in the morning to start my day"

When Maya's mother, and only family, is brutally murdered Maya is thrown into the foster care system. Not only must she deal with the small things, like having a room mate and a new school, but she must deal with her grief and the discovery that the murderer is living in her new back yard.

Hey, what a great idea! feel free to mention on the writer's chronicles

Angela said...

Thanks, Nate. Hopefully it's because people like it here. :-)

Yay, Mary! Boy I thought you were a follower ages ago! Shows what I

What a wonderful idea! Can I put in my twopennyworth?

Perfect Score:
Follow Alex Finch’s attempts to emerge from the wreckage of his shattered dreams. Will he ever find the happiness he craves with his love, Sam Barrowdale, or will a corrupt pharmaceutical company that seems more set on harming than curing forever stand in his way?

Donna said...

Sure, why not? I've been a follower for a while. It's a WIP. I'm hacking my way through the first edit now but it couldn't hurt to have a few more sets of eyes look at it. It's YA fantasy.

Diamond Crier -

Talem's turning into a cheat, Ketin's got claws, Lania's using people for pin cushions, Pyle's fighting with himself and the guardian of Storm has decided to make a rotting appearance. Maybe Sabina should start believing those conspiracy theories sooner rather than later before she has more than crying diamonds to worry about.

OK, let me give this a shot:

Title: P2PC (SciFi Romance)

Lissa Bruce boards a research vessel named in honor of her murdered spouse—except she wasn't technically married, he wasn't really murdered, and her identity has been changed to protect the not-so-innocent. Now she must face three of the most powerful forces in the universe: gravity, extremists...and love.

Oh, I'm so excited. Can't wait to dig through these :).

Is it too late to enter the contest, because I have a pitch for a novel I'm working on:

Title: Died Laughing

Once a promising young sketch comedy actress with the troupe, “Guffaw and Order,” Detective Brooke Cheseria is now investigating the murder of her comedy mentor, theater actor Hector Varper. But when all the Guffaw and Order members implicate Brooke's detective partner, Chris Bussler, as the culprit, Brooke must choose between grabbing the glory she never got as a detective and putting someone else before herself.
